DETROIT -- With the trade deadline minutes away, Austin Jackson saw a replacement on the top step of the dugout and realized what was happening. "I pretty much kind of knew what was going on," Jackson said. "Just kind of a sad moment right there knowing that last run off the field, it was pretty tough with all your teammates that you played with." Jackson was traded by the Tigers on Thursday in a three-team deal that brought star left-hander David Price to Detroit. But the timing of the move allowed him one last ovation from the home fans. With one out in the seventh inning of a 7-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox, Jackson was pulled from the game and made the long jog from centre field to the dugout. Left-hander Drew Smyly was also involved in the deal. He started and pitched five innings, although he didnt have to be taken out abruptly like Jackson was. The game quickly became a secondary concern in the Motor City when news of the trade began circulating, but Detroit lost for the fifth time in six games. Moises Sierra had four hits, and Jose Abreu and Adam Eaton added three apiece for the White Sox. Joakim Soria (1-4) -- another pitcher Detroit recently traded for -- hit Paul Konerko with the bases loaded in the seventh to give the White Sox a 5-4 lead. Abreu extended his hitting streak to 20 games. Ronald Belisario (4-7) got the win in relief, and Jake Petricka pitched the ninth for his sixth save. Chicagos John Danks allowed four runs and seven hits in five innings. There had been speculation he might be dealt before the deadline. "Truthfully it wasnt even a topic of conversation in here between anybody," Danks said. "Theres nothing anybody can do about it. Its part of the game and yeah, I dont think that had any effect on any of us to be honest." Instead it was Detroits Thursday starter who ended up being traded. Smyly pitched five innings and allowed four runs and 11 hits. Detroits Torii Hunter and J.D. Martinez hit back-to-back homers in the third. SORIAS STRUGGLES: Soria came on in the seventh in a tie game and struck out Eaton, only to have the Chicago hitter reach base on a wild pitch. After a single by Alexei Ramirez and an intentional walk to Abreu, Soria got pinch-hitter Conor Gillaspie on a popup before hitting Konerko. "I wouldnt say that was a rough outing to be honest with you," Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said. "I know he gave up the run and he gave up that hit, but I thought it was a pretty good outing." AMAZING ABREU: Abreu doubled twice off Smyly and extended his hitting streak. The Chicago slugger has hit safely in 38 of his last 39 games. Only two rookies have had longer hitting streaks for the White Sox: Guy Curtright had a 26-gamer in 1943, and Chico Carrasquel had a 24-gamer in 1950. TRAINERS ROOM White Sox: Outfielder Avisail Garcia (shoulder) and reliever Matt Lindstrom (ankle) are both starting rehab assignments Friday at Triple-A Charlotte. Tigers: Outfielder Andy Dirks, who has missed the whole season so far because of back problems that required surgery, is set to begin a rehab stint Friday with Class A West Michigan. ON DECK White Sox: Chicago returns home to face Minnesota on Friday night. Ace left-hander Chris Sale (10-1) takes the mound for the White Sox against Logan Darnell (9-6) of the Twins. Tigers: Detroit takes on Colorado in an interleague matchup. Justin Verlander (9-9) starts for the Tigers against Franklin Morales (5-5). Pacquiao chased Algieri from the opening bell, knocking him down repeatedly and dominating. About the only thing Pacquiao didnt get was his first knockout in five years, settling instead for a lopsided 12-round unanimous decision against an opponent who seemed unwilling to engage. By the time it was over, Algieri had gone down six times. And Pacquiao had a signature win that should put to rest the idea hes declining and maybe even set up a fight next year with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Pacquiao prayed in his corner while waiting for the decision. But it was Algieri who never had a prayer. Pacquiao knocked Algieri down once in the second round, two more times in the sixth and twice more in the ninth. After a final knockdown in the 10th round, he seemed to back off in a fight that had long been decided. Two ringside judges scored the bout 119-103 while the third had it 120-102. The Associated Press had Pacquiao winning 120-102. Pacquiao went into the fight saying he needed a signature win to entice Mayweather to fight him in a bout that boxing fans have wanted for years. He vowed to put on a power performance like some of his earlier fights and did, never letting Algieri get close. I really want that fight, Pacquiao said of Mayweather. The fans deserve that fight. Some of the sold out crowd of 13,202 at the Venetian Macau may have wondered whether Algieri deserved this fight, as he spent more time trying to stay away from Pacquiao than trading punches. But while Algieri could run, he couldnt hide. Pacquiao caught him repeatedly with power punches and dropped him as he tried to back away. The master boxer was given a master class by professor Pacquiao tonight, trainer Freddie Roach said. I was disappointed in Algieris performance tonight. All he did was run. Algieri said he was simply beaten by a better fighter. Its not just his hand speed, Algieri said. Hes a great fighter. He does everything well. Manny has perfected his style of boxing. Pacquiaos seccond fight in China was held at midday to accommodate the pay-per-view sales in the U.ddddddddddddS., but the time of day didnt matter much to the Filipino fans who cheered on their 35-year-old national hero. Pacquiao knocked Algieri down in the corner in the second round, though Algieri claimed it was a slip. He easily fought his way through Algieris tentative defence, landing punches on the inside and piling up points. Algieri came into the fight with a reputation for his jab, but he refused to commit to it early and simply pawed at Pacquiao with his left hand. Still, Algieris corner somehow thought he was carrying out the game plan just the way they had drawn it up. Youre doing beautiful man, trainer Tim Lane told his fighter after the third round. Everything stays the same. Keep it up. By the end of the fourth round, Pacquiao had already thrown more than 100 more punches than Algieri. But Algieri rarely stopped to set his feet to punch, and kept trying to run away from the champions punching power. Unfortunately for Algieri, things then went from bad to worse. Pacquiao caught him with a big left hand that sent Algieri sprawling on the canvas in the sixth round, almost turning a reverse somersault before finally landing in the corner. Pacquiao was right back on him, and Algieri went down again late in the round as he tried desperately to survive. Still, Algieris corner urged him to continue to do what he was doing, long after he needed a knockout to win. This is the way we want to be, Lane told him. This is what you wanted Algieri was an unlikely opponent despite being unbeaten in 20 fights after ending a kick boxing career to concentrate on boxing. He got the bout after being knocked down twice in the first round in his June fight with Ruslan Provodnikov and coming back to win a 12-round decision, and was supremely confident in the weeks before the fight that he would beat Pacquiao, too. Still, oddsmakers made him a 7-1 underdog against the Filipino great, who came into determined to show he still had his punching power. The bout was for a piece of the welterweight title held by Pacquiao, though it was fought at a catch weight of 144 pounds instead of 147. ' ' '
