Two-time major champion Rory McIlroy is leaving Dublin-based Horizon Sports Management to set up his own management group, The Associated Press has learned. It will be the second time since October 2011 that McIlroy has changed management. A person with knowledge of the decision said McIlroy will create his own team with his father, close friends and associates. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because McIlroy has not announced the change. McIlroy, who started the year in a slump and still hasnt won, is to play next week in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. "We cannot make any comment," Conor Ridge at Horizon Sports said in an email. McIlroy denied speculation last week at The Players Championship about leaving Horizon, and he was accompanied by Sean OFlaherty of Horizon, when he left Sunday after tying for eighth place. The Irish Independent first reported that McIlroy was leaving. McIlroy appears to be following a model set up by Adam Scott, who set up his own company with a small group around him. The change was a surprise, much like when McIlroy left Chubby Chandler of International Sports Management in 2011, just four months after the 24-year-old from Northern Ireland won the U.S. Open by eight shots with a tournament record 16-under 268. He knew Ridge and the Horizon staff through his close friendship with fellow U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell. McIlroy last year won the PGA Championship by a record eight shots among his five wins worldwide, which made him No. 1 in the world and allowed him to win the money title on the PGA Tour and European Tour. Horizon negotiated a mega deal with Nike Golf, which is said to be worth upward of $20 million a year. Horizon also brought sponsorship deals with Bose and Omega, structured in such a way that McIlroys apparel and golf bag were not splashed with logos. With Nike and Omega, he was able to end his previous contracts with Titleist and Audemars Piguet. He has Santander Bank on his bag, a deal that began under Chandler. McIlroy signed a long-term deal with Horizon Sports, which stands to earn commission from the length of the recent endorsement deals. The shakeup is another example of how McIlroy calls the shots. His split from Chandler and ISM occurred on the flight home from Bermuda for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which McIlroy said was the "hardest decision Ive ever had to make in my life." But he shared no details on why he needed to change. "Sometimes to go forward in your career, you need to make a decision," McIlroy said in Shanghai after joining Horizon. "I thought it was a decision I needed to make. I felt like for four years, Chubby was the best guy. But sometimes to progress you need to have a different view and a fresh view of things. Its about me trying to play my best golf. Thats all there is to it. With a new environment around me, it might enable me to play even better." His father, Gerry, was with McIlroy during the Florida swing before heading home to Northern Ireland. McIlroy is selling his home outside Belfast and lives primarily in a house he bought in south Florida, when hes not travelling to see Caroline Wozniacki.Jose Quintana Jersey Cubs . The Badgers (8-2, 5-2, No. 7 CFP) can ensure a trip to the league championship game by winning their final two regular-season contests, starting Saturday at Purdue .Weve had some unfortunate luck with players going down, but it goes down to the players that we have, and the mindset they have to step in, Biegel said.A senior leader, Biegel has played for three head coaches. Bret Bielema was still in Madison when Biegel arrived as a redshirt freshman in 2012. Gary Andersen followed for the next two seasons before current coach Paul Chryst took over in 2015.Biegel loves playing for Chryst, a Madison native who has restored stability. As a former Wisconsin player, Chryst embodies the grind-it-out, no-nonsense style on which the program prides itself. While Wisconsin would love to collect five-star recruits, the Badgers seem just fine with molding and developing lesser-regarded prospects.Ive overlooked at times the culture we have at the University of Wisconsin, because its just ingrained in you from Day 1, the precedent and standard we set here, Biegel said. Its not the five-star, the four guys we dont get. Its the hard work in the offseason, the dedication, the focus we have. That attitude, in turn, is handed down from each generation of Badgers, Biegel said, transcending coaching tenures. The Badgers are third in the FBS in scoring defense (12.7 points a game) and eighth in total defense (292.5 yards). Theyre tops in the Big Ten in rushing defense 101.0 yards per game. And theyve done it through a mix of injuries.Starting inside linebacker Chris Orr was lost for the season in the opener against LSU with a knee injury. Jack Cichy, a fellow starter inside, went down with a season-ending pectoral muscle injury lasst month against Iowa.ddddddddddddBiegel missed two games with a foot injury. The Badgers lost both games -- to top-five teams Michigan and Ohio State -- but the defense still performed well with Garret Dooley filling in for Biegel. The Badgers held Michigan to a season-low point total in the 14-7 loss . Dooley remains an important player in the linebacker rotation.Low-key like Chryst, defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox heaps the praise on how his players up and down roster get ready. The guys have done a really good job of understanding the importance of practice, how its their time of going over their craft, Wilcox said. All the components that give you the opportunities to have some success.Ryan Connelly and Leon Jacobs have both been more than capable replacements for Cichy, the leading tackler at the time of his injury. In the secondary, Lubern Figaro has improved through the year after taking over when third cornerback Natrell Jamerson went down with a leg injury early in the season. Jamerson is back, adding to the depth in what has been a solid secondary.Wisconsin had four interceptions last week against Illinois .Up front, Olive Sagapolu will miss the Purdue game this weekend because of a right arm injury. At 6-foot-2, 340 pounds, Sagapolu is a space-eating nose tackle who helps slow down the run.The Badgers turned to 6-4, 288-pound Conor Sheehy to play nose. Its a position that he had played before, and while the defense lost size without Sagapolu, it gained more athleticism up front.None of those D-linemen get enough credit. He might have a bad play now and then, but Conor plays steady football, Wilcox said. Conors a guy who will do anything for the team; very, very smart, well prepared and real good technique.Sheehy had figured to play more end this season, though he practiced at both positions. It doesnt matter to me, Sheehy said, Whatever they need me to play.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org---Follow Genaro Armas at: https://twitter.com/GArmasAP ' ' '
