ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Falcons didnt have to rely on their biggest star to get their offense back on course.Taylor Gabriel showed there is ample depth behind Julio Jones on Atlantas list of targets for Matt Ryan.Gabriel caught two touchdown passes, doubling his season total, and the NFC South-leading Falcons beat Arizona 38-19 on Sunday in an impressive return from their bye week. The Falcons (7-4) had dropped three of five. A 24-15 loss at Philadelphia on Nov. 13 was especially troubling for an offense that led the NFL in scoring and yards earlier in the season.Ryan completed passes to eight players, including Mohamed Sanu, who had a team-leading eight catches for 65 yards. When were playing like that, running like that, its pretty hard to stop us, Sanu said.It was a devastating loss for the Cardinals (4-6-1), who have lost two straight and three of their past four. Its disheartening, quarterback Carson Palmer said. Frustrating. And it hurts. After reaching the NFC championship game last season, Arizona is in danger of missing the postseason. We need one win, said coach Bruce Arians, who was on the sideline after falling ill and being briefly hospitalized early in the week. We just need one win. There is nobody left on the schedule that we cant beat and who knows what the final tally will be. All we need to do is just win one.The 38 points are the most allowed this season by the Cardinals, who began the day ranked first in the NFL in fewest yards and passing yards allowed. Atlanta collected 28 first downs and 360 yards. We got back to us, Gabriel said of the offenses resurgence against Arizona.Jones was shadowed by star cornerback Patrick Peterson and had only four catches for 35 yards. Jones drew two pass interference calls against Peterson that set up a touchdown and field goal. The 5-foot-8 Gabriel was the surprise star with four catches for 75 yards. Gabriel used his blazing speed to run through the Arizona defense for touchdowns of 35 and 25 yards, each on screen passes.I felt like they were running in slow motion, Gabriel said of the Cardinals defense. Gabriel was cut by Cleveland before the season and signed by Atlanta. It was a confidence-building win for the Falcons. Were a better version of ourselves from the opening part of the season to now as were heading into the second half of our season, coach Dan Quinn said. Here are more things to know about the Falcons win over the Cardinals:ELITE COMPANY: Larry Fitzgerald had four catches for 53 yards for Arizona in his 190th consecutive game with at least one catch. He tied Marvin Harrison for the third-longest streak in NFL history, behind only Jerry Rice (274) and Toy Gonzalez (211).MATT VI: Matt Wile averaged 58 yards on two punts in his NFL debut. He was signed this week as the fill-in for Matt Bosher, who was held out with a hamstring injury.Wile is just another Matt for Atlantas roster, joining Bosher, kicker Matt Bryant and quarterbacks Ryan, Matt Schaub and Matt Simms, who is on the practice squad. You can use that name loosely around here, Quinn said, smiling. Usually somebody turns around.Quinn said he was really pleased with Wiles punting and kickoffs.FANTASY STAR: Running back David Johnson led Arizonas offense, as usual, with eight catches for 103 yards and a touchdown, and 13 carries for 58 yards. He has at least 100 combined yards, rushing and receiving, in every game this season.TRUFANTS SEASON MAY BE OVER: Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant will learn this week if hell have season-ending surgery. He missed his second straight game with a pectoral/shoulder injury. Jalen Collins was the fill-in starter.INJURY REPORT: Cardinals wide receiver John Brown (hamstring) left the game and didnt return. ... Arians said Peterson was cramping and had a little bit of a knee issue that didnt force him out of the game. ... Falcons defensive end Adrian Clayborn (knee) didnt return after being escorted to the locker room.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFLCustom Timberwolves Jersey China . MINNEAPOLIS -- For the first time this season, the Minnesota Twins do not have the worst record in the American League.Fueled by a 21-13 stretch since July 1, including a 3-1 win in the opener of a four-game series against the Houston Astros on Monday, the Twins passed the Tampa Bay Rays and moved out of the A.L. cellar.Minnesota, which has won seven of its last nine overall, will try and keep that momentum going on Tuesday when it continues its series with the Astros.August 8th, we passed somebody. How long has it been? Twins manager Paul Molitor joked on Monday. Its been a long time.Despite a lost season, Molitor said players try and accentuate the positives like on Monday, when they moved up in the standings.I would think that these guys are aware of those things, Molitor said. Were enjoying what were doing right now, guys are having fun, a lot of joking going around which is good as long as the focus is where it needs to be.On the flip side, the Astros will try and get back on track before their fading postseason hopes are gone for good.Houston has lost six of its last seven games and nine of 11 overall, dropping to third place in the American League West.We didnt play well enough to win (on Monday) and its been troublesome for a couple of weeks now, Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. You gotta play better to win.The Astros mustered just four hits in Mondays loss and Carlos Gomez made a pair of defensive miscues in the fifth inning that accounted for two of Minnesotas tthree runs.ddddddddddddGomez also went 0-for-3 at the plate, including a double play, dropping his average to .210 on the season.Ill take a look at it and see how it goes, Hinch said when asked if he can continue to play Gomez. struggling through a tough season. You keep trying to hang in there with guys, you want to encourage them more than anything. Clearly its been a rough patch for him for a while.Hinch will send right-hander Mike Fiers to the mound to try and get the club going. Fiers struggled to open the season but has been better of late, posting a 3.56 ERA in 11 starts since June 1. He has had a quality start each of his last three times out, including a six-inning, two-run outing against Toronto on Thursday.Fiers allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk in a no-decision against the Twins on May 4 at Minute Maid Park.Houston will see a familiar face on Tuesday when the Twins send Hector Santiago to the mound to make his home debut. Santiago, acquired from the Angels on Aug. 1 in exchange for Ricky Nolasco and a prospect, allowed four runs on five hits and a pair of walks in five innings in Cleveland in his first game with the Twins on Thursday. The left-hander allowed one run on three hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings against the Astros when he played for the Angels on June 21 and has a 3.69 ERA in 10 career starts against Houston.
